journeywest Split  Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter

Once again Mindblowing Films charted successfully, this time with Raees making a soild enough $653k over a single week run. Not entirely sure there was anything approaching prohibition in India, but hey since when has Western cinema ever stuck to the facts either. Perhaps the only surprise I had was the movie didn't pop another couple of weeks. Guess Roadshow will be happy with the three week run Middle School: The Worst Year Of My Life achieved, though the total of $3.1 million certianly isn't going to be held up with high regard through the rest of 2017. Guess this was one movie that really didn't strike a chord with any particular demographic, hence the result. Comedy looked good in the trailers, but like a lot of people I kind of wondered if we hadn't seen all the best bits in the various pre-release trailers and teasers. Anyways the movie lit up a nice $11 million for Fox, giving the Distributor a solid enough result to hang the rest of the year on. Will no doubt grab a viewing if it drops on Netflicks. PC Oscar bait A United Kingdom made around $2.3 million over five weeks, failure to launch comes to minds, but it keeps third tier distributor Transmission on the score board. No doubt this will have some milage on streams, discs etc, but really there just wasn't the support for the movie to make it stand out. Sony/Asia Releasing spun Journey To The West: The Demons Strike Back for a week in low release and managed a $200k result, more importantly it got the name out in the market. Clearly this one was simply a drop with a push toward disc marketing. If I get a chance I'll check it out but to be honest not high on my things to do list.

Well make that three weeks in first spot for Lion as the Aussie PC flick continues it's relentless march toward blockbuster status, and in the process delivering distributor Transmission their best result to date. The movie clocked up another $3.06 million over the weekend, and should breached $20 million by the end of next weekend. Not bad, but for freaks sake the number of Aussie media outlets going into promotion overdrive should have ensured that result quick smart. Clearly aren't gpoing to bother getting into a sessoon as to be honest any movie the locals push this hard is generally crap, looking at you Australia and Red Dog, two of the most derivative movies in Aussie movie making history.

For a second weekend in a row Split held down second spot with a highly effective -33% hold, earning $2.3 million in the process. Clearly the movie is headed toward breakout hit status, which is welcome early news for the dark genre which will hopefully build on the success of last year. In third spot the bogans all rushed out to see Patriots Day cause its Yank propaganda of course, which is right up their narrow world view focus. The movie was reasonable solid with a $4,915 average over 242 screens for a bod of $1.2, Not expecting this one to last too long in the top twenty, so hold onto your linen kids, could be a bumpy ride for the top three over the next few weeks

Over its sophmore period Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, now where have I heard that before, dropped a dosappointing -55% putting any thoughts of a massive result out the door, around the corner, and disappearing over the horizon. Still the movie did add an additional $562K, which is enough to put it in range of a horror pass mark. Currently the movie stands at $2.3 million, I'm expecting things to head north of $3 million over the next couple of weeks. That's a complete acceptable final tally and should have Sony nodding their heads in approval at the result.

What's Coming Up, if anything

Settle down kids , alot more in the way of dark plot lines headed towards you in the coming weeks, just no next weekend.
