"Speak of the devil look who's on TV" - Angela

Five years after the slaughter at Camp Arawak transvestite maniac Angela Baker has been released from professional care having been dosed on psychiatry, electro shock treatment, and the sort of operation that makes he a she, and hell Angie is ready to take a walk on the wild side. Naturally Angela has been declared fit to be a counsellor at Camp Rolling Hills, which is apparently about an hour away from the abandoned Camp Arawak. Interestingly there have been some major seismic upheavals in the last few years as Arawak is now in the hills and not near the lake.

Angela is concerned about her charges being the best they can be, which is pretty much being a good camper, and she is going to dish out some punishment to point out the error of their ways. Said punishment involves electric drills, various sharp implements, barbecues, chain saws, and heck death by long drop! Can someone stop the cantankerous counsellor or will she run out of people to punish? There's something seriously wrong with this flick and I'm not sure we're going to have enough room to cover it all; we're going to need a bigger review yo!

I'm going to state front and centre that Sleepaway 2 didn't work for me, it's a movie that is going to separate the real horror fan from the sort of twat that equates gore and "gnarly deaths" with the genre. This is the type of movie fodder thrown on for the sort of people who slow down at car accidents and has no discernable merit for anyone else, least of all the horror fan who is after something a tad darker and pulse setting. We get some brutal deaths, what amounts to boobology, and pretty much not a hell of a lot more. Some people have excused this flick as being a parody, get your head out of your arses this flick is a poor effort by people who have no fracking idea what the hell they are doing. Guess what the flick was shot to make a quick buck, it you're excusing it then you deserve every half arsed horror flick Boredwood is currently sending your way.

Enz: Mate I went into this one expecting some T&A, a lot of inventive kills, and a masked serial killer who would confront the survivors in the final scene. What I got was a lot of boobs, a heck of a lot of inventive kills, and nothing else. The movie barely operates as a slasher as we know who our masked killer is and all I had left was waiting to see how they would spin this one. Problem was they spun it out of control, with the movie last seen catapulting over the cliff edge into the swamp of ineptitude. And hell knows I hated the serial killer in this one, what a fracking let down from Angela in the first movie.

To be honest I did get a sort of Friday the 13th vibe from the flick with some aspects of the movie being stolen directly from that franchise. We get the group of campers around the camp fire telling the tale, the old abandoned camp ground that people keep having to visit, and those long looks to the forest shore that don't amount to much. Whereas F13th made everything work in its favour, very little wastage, I got the feeling Sleepaway 2 was simply going through the motions and using whatever atmosphere it stumbled upon to link the death scenes.

A surprisingly disappointing sequel to an entirely overrated first movie.

Enz: Know what you mean, was going to mention a real F13th Part 2 aesthetic to the camp, the abandoned camp, and the general atmosphere. Seems the movie makers were out of ideas, simply slung some boobs and gore at the screen, and hoped people would be fooled into thinking they were having F13th good times. What they missed of course is even the worse of the Jason flicks has some sort of coherent story going down to link everything together, this was just a series of scenes thrown on the screen in the hopes something would stick.

Guess I should mention that Sleepaway 2 makes the mistake of referencing other slasher movies, which simply shows how bankrupt in terms of ideas the current movie is actually. We get Jason, Freddy, and of course Leatherface. Surprisingly Michael doesn't get a jersey but I guess there was the faint hint of legality in the air as the Halloween people strove to protect their property. What's amusing is most of the rest of the Sleepaway 2 has been cobbled together from various other slashers in a sort of Rob Zombie grab bag of lack of originality. So I'm not about to say this flick is paying any sort of homage, the film makers simply aren't good enough to pull that iron out of the fire.

Enz: Yeah about the only original feature I was seeing was death by long drop, think Judy is on the receiving end there, though no doubt someone will write in and point out where the idea original came from. To be honest I was getting bored watching slasherdom's greatest hits. It's like a porno, the rooting scenes get boring after a while if there isn't something semi interesting in plot going down. I can simply swing the old telescope onto my next door neighbours bedroom if I simply wanted to catch some hide the sausage action. Not that I do that, at least regularly, I'm cutting down.

Not sure what more I can say about this sub standard sequel to an original movie that is only memorable for one scene. Guess if you are into mullets, then you are going to have a good time, though to be honest the 1980s thing is getting over the hill a bit. Movie for those who like gnarly deaths, everyone else can stay at home and watch something else.

Enz: Not a lot more to add, this time round Angela is a pain in the arse, the preppy camper schlock wore thin after a while, and the cardboard cut out characters didn't bring much to the party. Yes we get the slut, the bitch, the stoners, yadda yadda, no stone was left unturned in throwing on the standard slasher tropes. Anyone thinking this is a parody really needs to go watch some parodies to figure out why Sleepaway 2 fails in that regard as well. One of the worse slashers I've seen in a while, thankfully we don't have to wade through the third movie, though the return flick could be a chore and a half.

To sum up, so we get the hell out of here, poor acting, poor script, awkward directing, and pretty much plagiarising previous slasher movies. I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone outside the sort of person who digs inventive deaths and for some reason thinks this makes them a horror fan. There's nothing else here, simply an attempt to cash in on a first movie that strangely has a cult following. You get what you deserve I guess.
