Review

“All I did was order him off the menu. You didn't say not to order off the menu. ” - Jessica

In Dallas Sookie wants to keep her part of the bargain with Eric, and find the missing Godric. The local Vamps believe the Light of Day has something to do with Godric's disappearance but are split on what action to take, with the more hot headed wanting to storm the Institute and massacre everyone in sight. We also learn why Eric is so intense about finding Godric.

In Bon Temps people are recovering from Tara's birthday party. Sam learns he has more in common with Daphne than he could ever have thought, Maryann manipulates herself and team into staying at Sookie's house, and Lafayette wants his old job back. Surprisingly Jason is doing well, and displays hereto unknown leadership skills, this might be needed as Sarah Newlin is getting rather hot and bothered over our boy.

Seems like the review quide to season two is going to take on an epic time frame as every time I sit down to write a new obstacle is thrown into my path. This time it was two weeks of extreme flu followed by some family hospital time as the plagues of Egypt descended on the household. Hopefully it's plan sailing from here and we can rock on with the season finally. Anyway short review this time as am still recovering.

We're still on the entrees as the main course of the season is yet to be served

Another strong episode that had me glued to my screen as things went just that little more complex for our Bon Temps residents. The episode could have been subtitled “women troubles” as a number of the female cast members made nuisances of themselves due to being sidelined by various male characters. Bill was getting it on two fronts, Sookie not sharing his concerns about the Dallas Vampires and her single minded obsession with fulfilling their side of the agreement with Eric. Equally Jessica had found room service in the previous episode and had ordered up a “meal” against Bill's explicit dietary requirement. When Bill tries to enforce his Trublood regime, Jessica replies that it will be his fault if she develops an eating disorder. Now that's not something you hear everyday in a Vampire outing. The bellhop with the same abilities as Sookie, finds she wont take no for an answer, and eventually is forced tor resign from the staff of Hotel Carmilla. Interestingly Sookie doesn't hold herself responsible in any way or even dwells on what she has wrought. Meanwhile Jason has Sarah Newlin all over him and is sorely tempted, especially during one bathroom scene. As we all know Jason isn't a person who will by pass temptation in any form, so I'm expecting the worse there. And lets just say that Sookie has a major problem on her hands when she gets back to Bon Temps, with Maryann having taking up residence in Sookie's Grandmother's house. Oh and before I forget Hoyt is probably going to have some problems on the Mamma front, judging from this episode.

Never Let Me Go surprisingly gives us some background on Eric North, pre being turned, and explains his determination to discover the fate of Godric. All roads point to the Church of the Sun, but Eric is already frustrated with the approaches the Dallas crew want to adopt and has a poor regard for their thinking abilities. In the end it's Sookie who determines a course of action, she will infiltrated the Church, much to Bill's horror. Surprisingly given the power the vampire nation has at it's disposal it's the human who determines the course of action. Further hints in this episode that "coming out of the coffin" hasn't meet with universal vamp approval.

Once again the episode mixed some tension laced scenes with humour to keep things upbeat and moving along, about what we expect really. Some sex is ladle into the mixture as well just in case we all thought things were turning prime and proper out Bon Temps way. And Maryann just keeps on keeping on without taking the single focus we might have expected by now, we're still waiting on what her story is.

For once True Blood gets off the horror express train and settles into the paranormal romance trappings that source novels author Charlaine Harris was far more adept with. Not entirely sure this is going to go over terribly well with the fanbase, but at least things are being kept interesting, with differing points of view being able to take focus rather than a single outlook. I would expect in the next episode or two however that we'll be back on the horror gravy ride, as the the season sure did hit some gore ladden mayhem earlier.

Overall I had a good time with the episode though I did perceive it as another build, we're clearly heading for some major confrontations later in the season, with Alan Ball setting his pieces in place before making the playing board visible. To be honest I'm not entirely sure if this is the best approach, but since we're getting some solid television no harm done. Not the best ever episode but another step towards unveiling Maryann's ultimate plan and Godric's location.

Of course the return of Lafayette to Merlottes is an episode highlight!

Another episode setting the pace without advancing things overly.
