“So Jesus made the first vampire?” - Jason

Jason is being pulled further into Sarah and Steve Newlin Church with it's anti Vampire message. While Jason is trying his very best to avoid thinking the wrong thing about Sarah one wonders how long his resolve can last, lead not Jason into temptation as he has no will power. Meanwhile Sookie, Vampire Bill, and Jessica, arrive in Dallas as per Sookie's agreement with Eric. An attempt is made to kidnap Sookie but since the flight arrived late Bill is able to put a monkey wrench into what turns out to be a Church of the Sun plan.

In Bon Temps Tara has left MaryAnn's crib to live with Sookie, however not to be put aside that easy Maryann organises a huge bash for Tara's birthday and Sookie's house is soon overflowing with hedonistic party goers. Sam is pulled into things as he confronts Maryann and then there is the whole thing with Daphne. Sookie runs across another Telepath. And if that's not enough to wet your appetite for destruction Lafayette is dragged back into Eric's world. Think I've covered all the main points.

Wow hadn't realised how long it had been since I started in on season two of True Blood, slightly distracted by The Cult is my excuse, so with some reviewing time on my hands I was stoked to be back in Bon Temps checking out what the vamps and other things that go bump in the night were up to. Actually I need to get working on this one as the third season arrives on May 18th, and I believe we are being promised werewolves. Should also mention to regular readers that our word limit, tehehehe, for reviews has dropped from 1,200 to 800 since the last episode review.

Back in Bon Temps and loving it. How complex can they get those there story arcs?

Thankfully Writer Alan Ball kept the tightly woven storylines up in the air and I could pretty much rock on with Shake and Fingerpop without having to go catch the previous episodes in the season. We're still getting all sorts of story arcs headed our way and enough surprises in the episode to have me clambering to see what happens next. Daphne is aware of Sam's secret, Erix wants to keep tabs on Lafayette due to him being Sookie's friend, and what's Maryann's deal? While moving along the major plot points Ball manages to throw some more chum in the water that had me circling the episode boat with fixed intentions.

What's cool about Shake and Fingerpop are tension ladden scenes that suddenly hit comedy high notes allowing the Audience some relaxation as things go down. Bill has his hands fill with Jessica who is acting like a teenage princess. Actually at the airport when Bill springs to Sookie's rescue the scene is lightened by Jessica not being able to open her travel casket. Likewise when Lafayette is dragged back into Eric's world the load is lightened by Lafayette's reaction to drinking concentrated vamp juice. Notably the episode presented far more humour than we are regularly accustomed to and used it to good effect.

That's not to say that Shake and Fingerpop doesn't board the horror train, for sure we have the promise of some bloody goodness being delivered up. The vampires of Dallas sound like they may be going on the warpath if Sookie and Bill can't track down Godric. Maryann is clearly building up to something pretty much apocalyptic. And you just never know what Eric is going to get up to next.

Full marks to some of the references in the episode as well that might have escaped a few people. Anubis, Egyptian God of the dead, airlines brought a smile to my face, and Hotel Carmilla was certainly a wink to the Audience. Nice attention to detail by Alan Ball that had me nodding my head in approval. Love it when an outing throws some winks at the audience but doesn't wallow in referencing.

True Blood certainly hasn't dropped the T&A requirement with the episode, both gals and dudes are amply catered to as Maryann provides the backdrop to some horizontal action. I'm actually quite surprise they get away with this sort of stuff on prime time, but then again more T&A and less violence is probably not a bad thing.

After a delay of some months while catching up with other things I was more than happy to tune into True Blood again, with Shake and Fingerpop reminding me of just good the show was. I was rocking with the residents of Bon Temps again and look forward to catching up with the rest of the second season. Wonder if the Vampire Queen will make an appearance this season, or whether that's a surprise for a later season?
