Not quite making breakout hit status Clint Eastwood's The Mule managed seven weeks in the chart earning a solid $9 million in the process. Good result for the aging Director who has lost nothing with the advancing years. No haven't watch this one but for sure am going to be all across the disc release later in the year. Naturally a historic movie made some cash with the retirement set, The Favourite had an eleven week run making a total of $5.6 million. Anyone interested in this one, nope didn't think so, lets move it to the next level. Okay so Free Solo involves some dude free climbing some cliff or something, hey no interest, which managed a week in the top twenty earning $1.5 million before disappearing into the ether, as these type of movies have a tendency to do. And rounding out How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World had a ten week run earning an exceedingly positive $23 million in the process. Once again not overly interested in a cartoon flick. Second weekend on top for Captain Marvel as the House of Mouse finds new depths for the MCU. The movie dropped an entirely acceptable -45.5% over weekend two dragging in a outstanding $7.37 million which has the total gross at $26.2 million and rising. Oh and by the way the movie is now the top grosser for 2019 which is an excellent result, and unfortunately underlines the fact that we'll be stuck with increasingly bad superhero movies in the future. Mind you the animated Into the Spiderverse was pretty much worth your time checking out. Opening in second spot Hotel Mumbai tells the story of staff and guests at a Hotel in India who went above and beyond in the face of a terrorist attack. On the bright side the movie catapulted Icon back into the top league, unfortunately that was due to the box office being in the midst of a low period. Anyways Icon opened the movie on 268 screens but got a below average $3,654 per screen which delivered a bad $979k result. Pre-release earnings has total gross north of a million but to be honest can't see the movie reaching much beyond $2.8 million. And look in third spot A Dog's Way Home continues to delight the sandpit crew, you know the ones who haven't seen the zillion and one previous movies with the same plot. Anyways the movie dipped -26.6% over weekend three making $643K which has total gross now standing at $3.6 million. Slight yawn there, but moving along. We still have three horror flicks creeping around the chart, which is good news for those of us dialling into dark matters. Escape Room dropped -49.9% over weekend six falling to place 17 on the chart. The movie is closing on $4 million, but withthe result this weekend being $68k and still the best of $100k to make I'm putting that in the dicey folder. Meanwhile The House that Jack Built continues with getting the name out in front of punters, horror fans are already across this one and are patiently waiting for home view options, with total grodd now standing at $40.6k. And the disaster that is Happy Death Day 2U continues to wade through the suck, total gross still a disappointing sub $1.4 million. Please UPI, put this one out of its misery sooner rather than later. Election date been announced, and hey a 4k version of Ridley's Alien! |
