About the only movie of note dropping out of the top twenty was Atomic Blonde which did a lot less than distributor UPI would have expected. The Charlize Theron lead spy actionier only crashed the party for four weeks making a disappointing $4.8 million in the process. That's got to be something of a car wreck for UPI and doesn't look like it will push the disc or rental markets, most potential viewers having already seen the movie at the cinema.

Dropping in top spot over the weekend was The Hitman's Bodyguard, an action comedy with some serious firepower in Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman. Roadshow went with a mild 313 screens scoring a robust average of $7,445 for a bow of $2.3 million. That isn't going to really push anyone's buttons and I'm expecting a $5 million forgot about it a week after leaving the top twenty result. Seems your average action orientated flick isn't making the major box office action it could once have expected. Guess the U.S summer session is over as well, expected a few low weeks coming up folks.

After holding down top spot for one week American made had to settle for second on the ladder over weekend two, but did hold remarkably well with a -28.4% drop. An additional $1.5 million made over the weekend pushed total gross to $4.5 million, still promising the movie can do solid enough business to return a very solid result for UPI. In third spot Girls Trip sees black actresses behaving badly, cause that sells tickets and stuff, as the modern day trend of chick flicks going raunchy continues. The flick opened on 282 screens but disappointed slightly with an average of $4,621 only generating a $1.3 million. That is not going to be enough to really lift things to a total that will please the Distributor.

Everything over the weekend was dropping in dark genre land, but hey we still have three movies hanging in there. Annabelle: Creation is still chugging along with a decent hold of -41% over weekend four. The movie added $536K over the weekend pushing total earn to $6.75 million and setting up the demonic doll flick or a nice result over $7 million. War for the Planet of the Apes continues to lose screens at a rapid rate, which is going to slow income. The movie was off 42% over weekend six only earning $136K, but that was enough to push total gross past $10.3 million, And finally 47 Meters Down was off -52.6% but added $107K to bring the running total to $415K.

What's Coming Up, if anything

Another week and two more releases to keep dark genre fans bright eyed and bushy tailed. Leading the batting lineup is It a remake based on Stephen King's massive monster tome. Kids run across Pennywise, a monster that can bring out their darkest fears, and have to battle against the evil that is engulfing their town. Not quite sure how this one is going to do, but expecting around $2.4 million based on the advertising campaign that has been at a can't miss it level. If the movie fails to make anything like that then it really will be something of a disaster. Out of South Korean is The Mimic which sees The Jangsan Tiger able to mimic human voices to lure victims. Not sure how many screens this one will get, but figure anything aboive $100k would be awesome.
